Alan Cooper insists: software must be developed by professionals, not users

In this keynote http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/Charles/Alan-Cooper-Questions-after-his-keynote/ the “father of Visual Basic” speaks on the user-oriented design.

The basic idea that software should be designed FOR the users, not BY them. In other words, professionals, i.e. software developers, must understand what users need, but not by asking “what do they want” but rather by studying users.
